April 2016 Reading Wrap-Up

Despite April being one of my busiest months this year (final exams, packing up all my things to move, etc) it managed to be a fairly decent reading month. I finished eight books this month (only six of which I’ll be talking about because two were for class and I’m still not quite emotionally healed from the abuse they inflicted on me to talk about them).

SO.

Let’s just get into the books, shall we?

1.The Giver by Louis Lowry. Believe it or not, this was actually the first time I’ve read this one, and I really enjoyed it! I saw the movie when it came out, so what I was picturing in my head was heavily influenced by that, so I kind of wished I had read the book first, but still. Overall very enjoyable. Fast, well-written, and thought-provoking. 4/5 stars.

2.Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky. This book was fantastic. You can find my full review and thoughts on it here. Dark, satirical, and hilarious. 4/5 stars.

3.Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler. Oh my goodness this book. If you aren’t familiar with Octavia Butler’s work, she was the first African American woman to publish a science fiction novel, so that’s pretty darn cool. I was really torn about rating this book. I am convinced this is one of those books that simply cannot be rated; therefore, I took the easy way out and give it a neutral 3 stars 😉 The thing is, I can’t say I enjoyed this book per say. It was brutal and gritty and honestly, some of the descriptions made me sick to my stomach. But I can acknowledge that it was honest and well done. I may just not be the right person to fully appreciate this book. Brutal, brutal, and more brutal. 3/5 stars.

4.Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. This book was pretty good. I have a full review where you can read all of my thoughts on it here. 3.5/5 stars.

5.November 9 by Colleen Hoover. If you saw my review for this, which you can find here, you know how much I loved this book. Cute, fast, and heart wrenching. 5/5 stars.

6.Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. Another great read! Dark, funny, and addictive. (I lucked out with a pretty great bunch of books this month!) You can find my full thoughts in my review here. 4/5 stars.

So there you have it! Those are the books I read in the month of April. Please let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of these. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I hardly ever see anyone else who’s read Anna Dressed in Blood! I really loved it when I read it. Are you planning on reading the sequel? I haven’t read it yet, but still plan on it one day. Kind of hard to see where another book can come out of that ending.

    1. Exactly! I haven’t decided if I’ll read it or not. Maybe if I find a good deal on it at a used bookstore or something! I’ve haven’t heard much about the sequel though. I’ll have to look up reviews. If it’s not any good I don’t want it to ruin the first one for me
